UFC.com has a great article highlighting some of the quotes UFC heavyweight title holder Brock Lesnar has made since his mixed martial arts start in 2007. With all the hype heading into UFC 116 on July 3 from Las Vegas, it’s good to realize that Lesnar almost died in 2009 and that fighting is really secondary to the fighters health. Lesnar seemed more humble than ever when he said:

“Everybody’s got life-changing experiences and this is one of them for me. I believe things happen for a reason, and this gave me a different perspective on life and on my family. I’m a young guy – these things aren’t supposed to happen. I consider myself a healthy human being. I’m 32 years old, and for something like this to happen, I definitely had to re-evaluate. When you think you’re doing all the right things and all of a sudden something like this happens, obviously you’re not, so I had to make some changes.”

MMA fans will be very interested to see if Lesnar has returned to his former self, or if the illness took some permanent toll on him. July 3 should answer this question.
