Raphael Assuncao, the last man to beat current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw, will return to action in October.
Ranked No. 3 in the 135-pound division, Assuncao is set to collide with Bryan Caraway at the UFC Fight Night 54 card in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Oct. 4. UFC announced the match-up Wednesday.
A strawweight bout between Paige VanZant and Kailin Curran, first reported by MMAFighting.com, is also official for the card.
Assuncao (22-4) enters the fight riding the longest win streak in the bantamweight division. Undefeated since cutting down to 135 pounds, the Brazilian holds victories over Dillashaw, Pedro Munhoz, Vaughan Lee, Mike Easton, Issei Tamura and Johnny Eduardo.
Caraway (19-6) last competed in June, when he scored a second-round submission over Erik Perez. His previous bout took place more than a year before, when he tapped Johnny Bedford. “Kid Lightning” has won five of his past six bouts, all via submission.
UFC Fight Night 54 takes place at Halifax Metro Centre in Nova Scotia, Canada, and is headlined by Rory MacDonald vs. Tarec Saffiedine.
