Gina-CaranoFan favorite, and former women’s 145 lb title contender, Gina ‘Conviction’ Carano (7-1) has has not received medical clearance for her upcoming June 18 fight against Sarah D’Alelio (4-1).

The announcement was made today by Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker during a conference call for the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum event. The Carano and D’Alelio bout will be rescheduled for a future date.

In a released statement, Carano noted “I’m certainly disappointed not to be fighting on June 18th. I’d like to thank Greg Jackson and Team Jackson for such an amazing camp. I hope this is only a brief setback.”

Replacing the bout on the main card will be a No. 1 lightweight contender bout between K.J. Noons (10-3) and Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal (21-6).

Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum is scheduled to take place on June 18 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Carano hasn’t fought since Aug. 2009 when she lost a Women’s Middleweight (145 lb) title fight to current champ Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos. Since then ‘Conviction’ kept herself busy outside of the cage, recently completing filming on the upcoming summer movie “Haywire” with director Steven Soderbergh, co-stars Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, and Channing Tatum.

Her return to the cage was officially announced in February of 2011 with Carno heading to Team Jackson’s camp to prepare for her return fight.
