The competition for Fight of the Night at UFC on FOX 9 is shaping up to be something fierce.

On a Dec. 14 card in Sacramento which already features the Anthony Pettis-Josh Thomson lightweight title bout and the bantamweight contenders’ matchup between Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald, a sizzling welterweight fight has been added to the mix: Carlos Condit vs. Matt Brown.

FOXSports.com broke news of the matchup on Wednesday.

Condit (29-7), the former UFC interim and WEC welterweight champ, has won bonuses in six of his past seven fights (four Fights of the Night and two Knockouts). His most recent Fight of the Night award came after his sensational fourth-round finish of Martin Kampmann at UFC Fight Night 27 on Aug. 28, which snapped a two-fight losing streak.

Brown (18-11), meanwhile, is a classic case of a mid-card fighter forcing his way into the elite. The 32-year-old Cincinnati native has been a UFC mainstay since 2008, but he’s found his groove over the past two years, winning his last six fights, with the last four in a row coming via finish. His most recent victory was a first-round knockout of veteran Mike Pyle at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston.
