UFC welterweight Carlos Condit (26-5) has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming UFC 127 bout with Chris Lytle due to a knee injury. Condit is expected to be out for a month or more.
The news was first reported by Sportsnet.ca and then confirmed by MMAjunkie.com who spoke with sources close to the event. No word on if a replacement would be found for Condit or if the bout would be rebooked for a later date.
Condit and Lytle were to have met on Feb. 27 on the main card of UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia.
Condit is on a three fight win streak and is 11-1 in his last twelve fights. He was the last WEC welterweight champion before the promotion moved the heavier weights to the UFC. His last octagon appearance earned him the “Knockout of the Night” after he KO’d Dan Hardy at UFC 120 in the first round of their fight. Before that he stopped Rory MacDonald at UFC 115, earned a split decision against Jake Ellenberger at UFN 19, and lost a split decision to Martin Kampmann at UFN 18.
Lytle, winner of four “Fight of the Night” honors, has won four straight and is 5-1 in his last six fights. He earned a unanimous decision win over Matt Serra at UFC 119 in September in his last fight. He submitted Matt Brown and UFC 116 and Brian Foster at UFC 110. While earning a unanimous decision over Kevin Burns at the “TUF 9 Finale”, which got him one of three straight “Fight of the Night” bonuses.
