Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight title contender, Cat Zingano, has been released by the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion after seven fights and a 3-4 record inside the Octagon.
That’s according to a report from MMA Junkie.
Whether Zingano had fulfilled her contract and could not reach an agreement on terms of a new deal or was released midstream is unknown at this time, but it’s a shame to see “Alpha” depart without securing that Amanda Nunes rematch.
Zingano, 37, stopped “Lioness” at UFC 178 back in late 2014.
The biggest knock on her career — which includes a win over former champion Miesha Tate — was inactivity. Zingano (10-4) only fought once per year from 2013-16 and missed all of 2017 after dealing with “medical bullshit.”
In the wake of her UFC release, the bantamweight rankings were overhauled (see them here), paving the way for ex-title contender, Bethe Correia, to rejoin the list. Perhaps Zingano can follow the recently-released “Cyborg” to her next home later this year.
