Cerrone on meeting with White about MMAAA: He was ‘1000% receptive’ about what I wanted

Donald Cerrone says he met with Dana White before UFC 206 to talk about his involvement with the MMAAA.

When the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association was unveiled, Donald Cerrone was announced to be part of the board of fighters alongside Georges St-Pierre, Cain Velasquez, T.J. Dillashaw, Tim Kennedy, and others. Soon after though, Dana White went public and vented his frustration on how Cerrone didn’t call him before joining the MMAAA, citing that he even bailed Cowboy out of legal trouble in the past.

Cerrone then seemed to ease off a bit, saying that he didn’t know he was in the MMAAA board, and that he really should’ve called White beforehand. Cowboy fought at UFC 206, and says he also met with White during the weekend to clear the air and discuss the topic.

“It went very good. It wasn’t a lunch, he just pulled me aside after the media scrum,” Cowboy said about speaking to the UFC president. “We talked for about 15-20 mins. He’s a happy man, and I’m a happy man.”

Cerrone says not only was their relationship back where it was, White also listened to the reasons he joined the MMAAA and the things he wants to be changed.

“We were just talking about what I wanted, like what I discussed with (the media), and what he expected out of me. It went very well. (He was) 1000% receptive, definitely.

“We were always in a good place. It’s like when you get in trouble with your dad and they don’t ground you, but just tell you how disappointed they are — which is even worse. It’s kinda what he did to me. It was kind of like a slap in his face. I should’ve let him know what I was going to get involved with. It is what it is, but we’re on the up and up now.”
