UFC veteran Donald Cerrone is no longer willing to wait for a big-money fight against Conor McGregor.

Just a few months back, the was a buzz about a possible booking between Donald Cerrone and Conor McGregor some time for 2019. It was planned to be McGregor’s return fight since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 last October.

But because of contract disagreements and “retirement” declarations, none of these plans ever materialized. Instead, the UFC decided to book “Cowboy” against Al Iaquinta to headline the company’s upcoming event in Ottawa, Canada this Saturday.

A fight against the company superstar comes with a guaranteed lucrative paycheck, but for Cerrone, that ship has sailed.

“The chase is over. It’s done,” Cerrone told MMA Junkie. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m not going to wait. Let’s go.”

Cerrone did say that he’s not completely shutting off the opportunity if it arises, but he’s not holding his breath for it.

“Who knows, man? I’ll take it if it does, of course,” he said. “If not, we’ll take whoever’s next. I love my job. I love fighting.”

UFC Ottawa will be co-headlined by a middleweight fight between Derek Brunson and Elias Theodorou.
