Donald Cerrone does not think McGregor would go far in terms of trash talk to build up their UFC 246 fight.
A Conor McGregor fight won’t be complete without a healthy amount of trash talking. But for this upcoming fight at UFC 246, his opponent Donald Cerrone isn’t expecting too much from “The Notorious.”
The two already had an encounter almost five years ago during a press conference when they engaged in a brief back-and-forth. But according to “Cowboy,” there remains no real feud between them.
“That’s just you media boys digging and shoveling for s—t to bring up,” Cerrone told MMA Fighting. “That’s all that was. Conor hasn’t said anything bad about me so you’ve got to go get old s—t out.”
McGregor did strike a nerve during the build-up of his UFC 229 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018, when he included the champion’s religion and personal life in his tirades. Cerrone, however, trusts that the Irishman won’t go the same route with him.
“He’s the best at it,” Cerrone said of McGregor’s trash talk. “He is the best. The thing is you’d really have to go low, talk about my grandma or my kid and then it would put it on another level. You understand what I’m saying? Then I’ll just come f—k you up in the lobby type sh-t.
“I don’t think it’s ever going to go that way. He understands that. We’re fighting, he can talk about that all he wants but don’t low blow.”
UFC 246 takes place on January 18 in Las Vegas.
