With an undisclosed injury to opponent Hacran Dias, former featherweight contender Chad ‘Money’ Mendes (12-1) has a new opponent for the upcoming UFC on FX 6 event in promotion newcomer Yaotzin Meza (18-7).
The injury to Dias was reported earlier today, while MMAWeekly.com posted the news naming Meza as Mendes’ new opponent.
UFC on FX: Sotiropoulos vs. Pearson is scheduled to take place on December 15, 2012 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Queensland, Australia.
Mendes bounced back from a knockout loss against featherweight champ Jose Aldo last January by turning in a solid 31-second victory at UFC 148. At the July show, ‘Money’ used a punch to the body to fell Cody McKenzie in the first round of their Vegas match. Inside the Octagon Mendes is 3-1.
Meza trains at the MMA Lab in Arizona with the likes of UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson and takes the fight on one week notice. Meza is 6-1 in his last seven bouts entering the Octagon on a loss via TKO this past April at a WMMA show. The Phoenix fighter has earned five victories via (T)KO, six by submission and seven by decision over his career.
