On Saturday night, Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White confirmed a rumored middleweight bout between former No. 1 contender Chael Sonnen (26-11-1) and ‘The Filipino Wrecking Machine’ Mark Muñoz (12-2) for the promotions second show on FOX television.

White made the announcement during The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale, which took place in Las Vegas.

UFC on FOX 2 is expected to take place on January 28th at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Expected to headline is a light heavyweight bout between Rashad Evans vs. Phil ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Davis, while White also noted in a recent interview, that he has one more “headline” bout to make for the event.

Sonnen returned to the Octagon this past October after being away for almost a year due to a suspension from the California State Athletic Commission and charges of money laundering in connection with mortgage fraud. The former No. 1 contender earned a second round submission victory over Brian Stann at UFC 136, showing fans that he hadn’t missed a step since his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117.

Munoz earned a dominant victory over Chris Leben last month in the first 5 round non-title bout in UFC history, earning a second round TKO (corner stoppage) at UFC 138. ‘The Filipino Wrecking Machine’ landed some heavy strikes to the eye of ‘The Crippler’ leaving him unable to see out of the eye which forced his corner to stop the fight. The win was the fourth straight for Munoz.
