Cheick_KongoUFC heavyweight Cheick Kongo (15-6-2) is looking to return to the octagon this summer after undergoing back surgery in December. Kongo, who signed a six fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship earlier this year injured his back after his March 21 win over Paul Buentello at UFC on Versus 1.

Since that time Kongo had been scheduled to meet Roy Nelson at UFC 116 but withdrew because of the injury. He then went on to face Travis Browne at UFC 120, fighting to a draw at the London event in October.

The French fighter elected to have surgery after rehab failed to repair the injury and looks to return in June.

There is a rumor that he’ll face Shane Carwin in Vancouver at UFC 131, but MMAFighting.com notes that neither fight has been approached by the UFC about a potential fight.
