This may explain why McGregor has been sneaking around his house with an Uzi.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight sensation Khamzat Chimaev is the toast of the mixed martial arts (MMA) town, having jumped out to a 2-0 record inside the Octagon by capturing back-to-back wins this month in Abu Dhabi.
But the undefeated Chimaev (8-0) may have never made it to “Fight Island” had he successfully carried out his seek-and-destroy mission back in 2018. It seems “Borz” was hellbent on defending the honor of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
So he flew to Ireland to assault “Eagle’s” top rival, Conor McGregor.
“Honestly speaking, I wanted to beat him up,” Chimaev told reporter Adam Zubayraev. “Many people thought I was coming there to help him prepare for Khabib. I was coming there to protect our pride and honor. I was going there for all of us. If that would not have happened, I would have maybe thrown, I don’t know, some object.”
Fortunately for all parties involved, Chimaev was stopped by uniformed officers and detained at a local police station for over eight hours. “Borz” was eventually released on the condition that he get back onto a plane and return to Sweden.
McGregor and Nurmagomedov previously engaged in a hostile war of words that crossed the line so many times, UFC President Dana White had to get involved. And that doesn’t even take into consideration the butt bombs and broken buses.
