A welterweight matchup featuring Clay ‘Heavy Metal’ Harvison (7-2) and DaMarques ‘Darkness’ Johnson (12-9) is in the works for the Ultimate Fighting Championships upcoming UFC on FOX 1 event for November.
Both fighters have made verbal agreements for the fight, and are expected to sign the official contract soon. News of the bout was announced by MMAjunkie.com on Tuesday evening.
UFC on FOX 1 is scheduled for November 12 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The first FOX show will feature one bout on the one hour television broadcast, as UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez defends his title against No. 1 contender Junior dos Santos.
The bout between Harvison and Johnson had been in the works for last months UFC Fight Night 25 event in New Orleans, but an injury to the ‘Darkness’ forced him off the card and he was subsequently replaced by Seth Baczynski. Backzynski would go on to earn a second round submission over Harvison.
That loss, was ‘Heavy Metal’s’ first defeat in the UFC having won his debut at the TUF 13 Finale over Justin Edwards by split decision. On the TUF series Harvison was a member of Team Lesnar where he was eliminated by Ramsey Nijem in a quarter-final match.
Johnson (pictured), another TUF product, was stopped by Amir Sadollah in March at UFN 24 by submission (strikes) after taking replacing James Wilks on two weeks notice. ‘Darkness’ has traded wins for losses in his last four losing to Sadollah, submitting Mike Guymon at Fight for the Troops 2, being TKO’d by Matt Riddle at UFC on Versus 2, and beating Brad Blackburn by TKO at UFC 112.
