Despite being just one week away from his rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 202 on Aug. 20 live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nv., McGregor had no trouble discussing his future beyond mixed martial arts (MMA). As a downright promotional genius, McGregor has done himself a good service by speaking his mind, pulling no punches and defending his shield against dweeb wrestlers. Unfortunately for Mayweather, he, too, is stuck in Irish crosshairs. The boxer already made it known that he’d fight McGregor inside of the ring and “Notorious” remains open about the potential superfight.
“Right now I have Floyd running around the Showtime offices gathering my money,” said McGregor during his recent press day for UFC 202 (click here to view). “That’s what he’s doing. He’s running around the Showtime offices begging for those executives to come up with $100 million cash to fight me. So as soon as he has my money, we can fight.”
While McGregor would wipe the floor with Mayweather inside of the Octagon, the 28-year-old UFC champion would be stepping foot inside the home of the greatest defensive boxer of all time. But according to McGregor, Mayweather can make any stipulations he wants.
“If you want to fight me we can fight,” added McGregor. “If you need a safety net of rules, we can do that as long as you have my money. I don’t need no rules to protect me. That’s my thoughts on all that.”
McGregor will have his hands full at UFC 202 as Diaz tries to ruin his meteoric MMA ascension once again. If McGregor is able to defeat Diaz, then defend his 145-pound title opposite Jose Aldo, it’s possible that UFC would entertain a once-in-a-lifetime superfight opposite Mayweather.
