The mixed martial arts (MMA) world was shaken to its core when news came that former UFC champion TJ Dillashaw had been suspended for two years for using EPO.

Overall it was a shocking fall from grace for a fighter who only three months ago was looking to become the latest champ champ. He lost to Henry Cejudo in 32 seconds and failed a drug test in conjunction with the fight. Not surprisingly, his longtime rival Cody Garbrandt was none too happy about what went down. ‘No Love’ went off on the situation in an epic Twitter rant earlier this evening.

Another high-profile fighter who has blasted Dillashaw before rushed to his side. Fellow former UFC champ Conor McGregor offered his support for Garbrandt on Twitter:

“Respect Cody! The loyalty you showed for Urijah and your team on that faithful day in the TUF gym will forever stand out to me! Enjoy this moment and these returned victories to you! Clean and Unbeaten!”

History With Conor McGregor

McGregor infamously called Dillashaw a ‘snake’ while he was coaching opposite Team Alpha Male’s Urijah Faber on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). Dillashaw was then a member of Faber’s team and made an appearance on the show.

‘The Notorious’ was proven right when Dillashaw soon left his longtime team for Colorado. While he was certainly within his rights to look out for his career, the nickname and reputation stuck. His rivalry with Garbrandt stemmed from the bitterness between him and TAM. ‘The Viper’ got by far the best of ‘No Love’ by knocking him out twice when they fought.

Those wins have most definitely come into question today. EPO is a notorious performance-enhancing substance that is only administered by injection, not a good look for Dillashaw whatsoever. Garbrandt admitted he fought foolishly in his two losses to Dillashaw and his return bout against Pedro Munhoz.

But he’s also right that all of his three losses have come to fighters with sordid PED histories. Is that enough to consider his record clean as McGregor says?
