McGregor On Crutches at Post-Fight Press Conference

Sunday, August 21

MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani observed McGregor “limping noticeably” when he went to meet with the post-fight medical team.

ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto added that McGregor will need to go to the hospital after injuring his shin.

It’s unclear what the injury is, precisely, but the Irish superstar made it a point to pepper Diaz with forceful leg kicks throughout the fight as a way to wobble his opponent.

“I kicked his knee about 40 times,” McGregor said, per Helwani. “My shin is killing me. That’s it. It’s the shin. Other than that, I’m perfect.”

A timetable regarding McGregor’s recovery has yet to emerge, but the Notorious will assuredly take his time to get healthy before he heads back into the Octagon for a third fight with Diaz, considering how much of his legacy will hang in the balance if the two decide to duke it out again.

If Saturday night’s comments were any indication, both sides are interested in making their rivalry a trilogy.

According to Helwani, McGregor stated he wants a third fight at 155 pounds after the fighters contested their first two bouts at 170 pounds.

Diaz didn’t make any immediate remarks regarding the weight for the prospective third clash, but he did say he wants to square off against McGregor once more, per Helwani.
