Conor McGregor opens up as early betting favorite over the streaking Tony Ferguson

The circus surrounding Conor McGregor’s next UFC fight is beginning to grow in size. After failing to take down undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. this past August, the unpredictable Irishman is making his way back to the Octagon.

While McGregor’s next move is always up in the air, especially when it comes to making the right choice financially, all signs point to “Notorious” defending his UFC lightweight title against interim king Tony Ferguson sometime early next year, if not late December.

The likelihood of the lightweight title unification bout has already sparked oddsmakers to put out a line for McGregor vs. Ferguson. And despite a 10-fight win streak, which includes his recent submission win over rising contender Kevin Lee at UFC 216 earlier this month, “El Cucuy” is opening up as an underdog.

Per betting website Bovada, McGregor is currently slated as the favorite at -165, while Ferguson comes in under the radar at +135. While that may rub some of Ferguson’s fans the wrong way, especially considering McGregor has one official UFC fight at 155 pounds, at least “El Cucuy” has better odds than Nate Diaz, who is currently a +195 underdog in a potential trilogy bout with “Notorious.”

At this point, McGregor’s next move is anyone’s guess. He’s going to go where the money is (like he always has), but he also expressed interest to legitimize the 155-pound crown he captured from former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez back at UFC 205 last year.
