MMA fighter Joao Carvalho has been left in a “critical condition” after being stopped by Charlie Ward, a team-mate of Conor McGregor’s at Straight Blast Gym in Ireland.
According to the Star (h/t the Independent), the Portuguese was examined by medical staff in the ring. His trainer revealed on Facebook he became “very ill” after suffering the third-round knockout and was subsequently “rushed to hospital”:
Ward and McGregor share the same coach, John Kavanagh, and Notorious was in Dublin to watch the fight on Saturday.
He was captured cheering on his stable-mate as he took Carvalho to the mat and finished him off with a series of unanswered strikes (Note: NSFW language in the footage):
SBG Ireland congratulated the fighter on Twitter:
Ward’s victory on home soil saw him extend his fledgling record to 2-1 after turning professional in November.
Per the Independent, Nobrega’s post added Carvalho’s team are “awaiting further details” on the fighter’s condition.
