Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight Josh Copeland, who went on to compete for both World Series of Fighting (WSOF) and Professional Fighters League (PFL), pleaded guilty to felony second-degree assault with serious bodily injury and misdemeanor third degree assault, part of a plea deal that landed him two years of probation, according to TMZ.
In addition, “Cuddly Bear” (18-6-1) has been released from PFL where he racked up a 4-2-1 record, one that included a spot in the promotion’s tournament finals last December. His last appearance ended by way of fourth-round technical knockout to Philipe Lins.
Tuesday’s release is part of the promotion’s “zero-tolerance policy” on domestic violence.
Copeland was arrested in Colorado last February after allegedly assaulting his wife, who will now receive restitution. As part of his plea agreement, the 36 year-old heavyweight will be permitted to travel, but also undergo evaluation and treatment for domestic violence and substance abuse.
