MMA: UFC 241-Cormier vs Miocic

There are obviously more important matters to deal with at this time, but fight fans can’t help but wonder when Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic are going to run it back for the undisputed UFC heavyweight title.

The two UFC stars have already met twice before. Cormier won the first meeting back at UFC 226 after moving up from light heavyweight to finish Miocic via first-round knockout and claim his second UFC title (highlights HERE). Their rematch at UFC 241 produced opposite results as Miocic was able to drag “DC” into the fourth round and secure a memorable TKO finish (see it HERE).

While a trilogy bout has been discussed over the past few months nothing has been finalized. Cormier recently shed some light on the impending matchup during a live Instagram session with current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

“Look, I know we’re in a crazy time right now with the world and with the way things are and it’s very up in the air but I think for me with the way things are going and the discussions that we had heading into the fight, into all this, the way that the discussions in terms of the fight were going, where I am going to fight this guy for my last fight, it’s going to be as ideal for me as I could ever hope for,” Cormier said (h/t MMA Fighting). “It’s gonna be beautiful.”

With everything up in the air as far as UFC scheduling is concerned Cormier wasn’t able to offer an exact date or time for the potential trilogy fight. However, “DC” did hint that he’d be sharing the stage with Usman.

“I know people like getting scoops, and I think if I’m guessing, I think the way things are falling you and I may be spending more time together than most people believe,” Cormier said.

“Obviously we can’t say a date and time yet but it is looking like you and I shall and will be sharing a party and I think that’s going to be a good thing.”

This is clear speculation, but Cormier’s remarks lead us to believe a Miocic trilogy bout could take place at UFC 252 this July in Las Vegas. That’s because Usman has also been rumored to defend his UFC welterweight title against Jorge Masvidal at the same event.

“I got one [fight left],” Cormier said. “Some guy asked me today, he goes ‘you gonna keep fighting?’. I said no. I said I got one [more fight]. Cause here’s the deal, you fight these guys, they’re 28, 27, I think [Israel] Adesanya’s very young. Some of these guys are very young. I don’t have to fight a young guy.

“Miocic is about to be 38 years old. So I get to fight one more old guy, one more time. That’s it. I ain’t fighting no 27-year-old dude.”

What say you, Maniacs? Do you think Miocic vs. Cormier 3 will happen at International Fight Week?
