Daniel Cormier vs. Stipe Miocic II will take place at UFC 241 in August.
It looks like Brock Lesnar isn’t returning to the UFC after all.
On Saturday night’s broadcast for UFC on ESPN+ 9: Iaquinta vs. Cowboy, the UFC officially announced that Daniel Cormier would be defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 241 in August.
Miocic, the former champ, hasn’t fought since his devastating first-round knockout loss to ‘DC’ at UFC 226, where Cormier became the promotion’s first ever simultaneous light heavyweight and heavyweight champion.
Miocic has been clamouring for a rematch ever since, and it looks like the wait has paid off.
Cormier was originally expected to defend his title against WWE superstar Brock Lesnar, but Lesnar and the UFC were unable to strike a deal and negotiations for the bout fell through. UFC president Dana White claims that Lesnar is now retired from MMA.
After beating Miocic in 2018, Cormier went on to defend his title against heavyweight slugger Derrick Lewis, winning the fight via second-round submission (rear-naked choke).
UFC 241: Cormier vs. Miocic II will take place later this year, August 17 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
