Former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia is nearing her Octagon return, as the Brazilian striker will fight Irene Aldana at UFC 227 on August 4 from inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., per a recent report by Combate.
Correia, 34, hasn’t fought since getting knocked out by a Holly Holm head kick back at UFC Fight Night 111 nearly one year ago. In total, the Brazilian “Pitbull” has gone just 1-2-1 since her title loss to Ronda Rousey three years ago. She desperately needs a win over Aldana this summer to maintain her position in the top 10.
Aldana, 30, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Brazilian submission specialist Talita Bernardo this past January at UFC Fight Night 124. The Mexican striker hasn’t lived up to her potential since crossing over from Invicta FC back in 2016 so this is going to be a big opportunity for Aldana to finally cash in against a recognizable name in the division.
As of now, UFC 227 will be headlined by a bantamweight title rematch pitting current champion T.J. Dillashaw against former titleholder Cody Garbrandt.
