Bethe Correia talks about her training camp at American Kickboxing Academy and how that got her confident to take on Raquel Pennington at UFC on Fox 19, on April 16.

Bethe Correia is confident she will bounce back stronger from her KO loss to Ronda Rousey from last August. In fact, she told Combate she feels like a Phoenix and is anxious to meet her next challenger, Raquel Pennington.  Especially after all the criticism she had to endure following the only loss in her career.

“My return will be different from all my other fights, you can be sure of that.  No girl has had such a pivoting moment in her career as I did. Everything I went through with the media in my country and my training camp. I know all girls work really hard, but when it comes to pressure and criticism, nobody has been through what I have. I feel mentally stronger and more mature. My way of training has changed and that will reflect on my next fight. I will come back like a Phoenix. Not because I died, because one loss won’t erase my story, but because I will come back more powerful than ever.”

One of the keys for this new and improved version of Bethe Correia relies on the fact she will do her whole training camp at the American Kickboxing Academy, alongside UFC champions, Daniel Cormier and Luke Rockhold and standouts such as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Josh Thomson.

“There’s a whole new arsenal of fighters over here with a different set of skills from many countries. I found  many holes in my game training with these guys.  This gym is very well-rounded and they are hungry to train, which is good.”

Bethe Correia meets Raquel Pennington at UFC on FOX 19, in Tampa, Florida, on April 16. The card will be headlined by a lightweight title eliminator between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
