A police investigation of an alleged incident on the island of Corsica in September of 2020 has been closed, with the officials citing ‘insufficient evidence.’
Conor McGregor is off the hook for the most recent allegations of sexual assault levied at him.
The Irish sports star was detained and questioned by police on the French island of Corsica back in September of 2020 over “attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition.” Few details ever came out regarding the case, but a France 3 Corse news report interviewed a witness who claimed McGregor “allegedly exhibited his private parts to the young woman without her consent as she made her way into the bar toilets.”
Both McGregor and his management strongly denied the accusations, implying it was some sort of money or attention grab.
“I am irate and putting out a warning loud and clear: Conor McGregor is not and will not be a target for those seeking to score a headline or a payday,” McGregor’s manager Auddie Attar said at the time.
McGregor also tweeted and deleted a message, ranting “I will never kill myself no matter how many wish for it. Try set me up all yous f**king want over and over and over. The truth will always set me free! Be it baby father claims, rape, indecent exposure, bulls**t WhatsApp group s**t. You f**king name it. Never will I fold!”
Now the Corsica police have confirmed with TMZ Sports that the case has been dropped due to insufficient evidence. Here is a translation of the official police letter from French:
“The examination of the present proceedings does not justify any criminal prosecution since:
— The facts or the circumstances of the facts of the proceedings could not have been clearly established by the investigations.
— The pieces of evidence are therefore not sufficient for the offense to be constituted and for criminal prosecution to be engaged.”
One of Conor’s reps wants it to be known that it was more than insufficient evidence, and claims the evidence actually cleared McGregor.
“They [French authorities] did a criminal investigation,” Karren Kessler told TMZ Sports. “They collected DNA and the DNA evidence confirmed McGregor’s account.”
McGregor is set to face Dustin Poirier on July 10th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Recently, Poirier claimed his opponent had reneged on a pledge to donate $500,000 to his Good Fight Foundation, but walked the accusation back shortly after their fight was officially announced.
