Cortney Casey responds to accusations she faked head-kick injury at UFC Sao Paulo: ‘It sucks’

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) strawweight Cortney Casey lost a unanimous decision to Claudia Gadelha at the UFC Fight Night 100 mixed martial arts (MMA) event last weekend in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The bout will probably be best remembered for an illegal head kick that landed on “Cast Iron” midway through the bout, though opinions vary on whether or not the foot actually made contact with the skull.

As far as Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission COO Cristiano Sampaio is concerned, Casey faked an injury and simply wanted the referee to save her from a beating in Brazil, which then prompted fight fans to bombard her social media.

Casey opens up to MMA Fighting:

“I can only imagine what Ronda [Rousey] goes through — like, the ridicule she goes through on a daily basis. It’s pretty pathetic. People that don’t even follow me going on my page just to say some shit, going out of their way. And I’m not even complaining. I’m not petitioning. I’m not on social media showing my ass and trying to get all these followers. I’m as simple as can be. I go out there and do my job. So I don’t know why everyone is yelling at me, and blaming me, like I’m going out saying all this stuff. I haven’t said anything, other than I got kicked in the head. For people to question my character after all that, and then after them knowing that no one else wanted to take this fight against Gadelha, for them to tell me I was trying to get an out? It sucks.”

Gadelha acknowledged the blow during the bout, but then denied ever making contact at the UFC Fight Night 100 post-fight press conference.

Casey, to her credit, hasn’t said a word about the fight — or the kick — since the FOX Sports 1 telecast ended in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Nor has she cried foul or made excuses for her loss to “Claudinha.”

I guess this guy was right about fighting in Brazil.
