In a completely shocking twist, Colby Covington is firm in his support of Donald Trump.

The poor man’s Chael Sonnen, Colby Covington, is fighting this weekend for an interim welterweight title in Chicago at UFC 225. He’s already had his fill of bombastic comments about Brazilian opponent Rafael dos Anjos, so why not turn to current events to create some more buzz?

MMA Junkie asked Covington about his thoughts on the current controversy surrounding the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, who had their White House visit abruptly cancelled by Donald Trump when it was clear that not all of their players were choosing to attend. As expected, Colby went full contrarian and remained solid in his support of Trump while dissing the City of Brotherly Love:

“What a joke. They live in the city of liberty, man – the liberty bell is right down the street. Their mascot is the eagle. That’s the American flag’s mascot.”

“I’ve just gotta say that the Philadelphia Eagles suck,” he said. “I can’t wait to take the belt to the White House, to the Oval Office, and put it on Trump’s desk.”

There’s no word on whether Trump knows who Covington actually is, but if he wins a meaningless interim title this weekend, he’ll…probably still be far off the president’s radar. Keep trying to drum up weird controversy though, Colby! You do you!
