There was a time when it seemed that a fight between former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champ-champ Conor McGregor and fan-favorite, Donald Cerrone was close to happening.
Then just like that, talks stalled, as egos and bickering about placement on the fight card got in the way of what would have bee a wildly-entertaining scrap. According to “Cowboy,” the chances of that bout actually going down are slim-to-none, as he’s done chasing the showdown.
It got to the point where Cerrone decided said enough is enough.
“We were supposed to fight in April, then July and just kept stringing it along. and I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m not going to wait. Let’s go.’”said Cerrone in an interview with MMA Junkie. “The chase is over. It’s done.”
Furthermore, Donald touched on brief rumblings regarding a rematch with Nate Diaz, who defeating him way back at UFC 141, saying though it was in play, that ultimately went up in smoke, as well.
As a result, “Cowboy” will face Al Iaquinta in the headlining act of the upcoming UFC Fight Night 151 event this Saturday (May 6, 2019) inside Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
“Cowboy” is looking to rack up his first three fight win streak for the firs time in nearly three years, while Al is looking for his second straight win after taking out Kevin Lee last December.
As for McGregor, there is no telling when he will return to action, as he has more pressing matters to handle at the moment in the form of a sexual assault case.
