Dana White: Nick and Nate Diaz keep turning down fights, Nate ‘holding out’ for Conor McGregor

Despite being two of the more popular fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) today, Nick and Nate Diaz have failed to put a fight together with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Nick is fresh off a suspension and hasn’t competed since fighting Anderson Silva at UFC 183 in 2015, while Nate last stepped inside of the Octagon opposite Conor McGregor at UFC 202 this past August, losing the rematch via majority decision. According to UFC president Dana White, the promotion has tried vigorously to get the two Stockton brothers back inside the Octagon.

“We keep offering Nate fights and he keeps turning them down. Nick, too,” said White during a recent interview with TMZ Sports.

Most recently, Nate turned down a fight with former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, who will now take on Dustin Poirier at UFC 211 on May 13, while Nick reportedly declined bouts opposite Robbie Lawler and Demian Maia, who will now fight Jorge Masvidal at UFC 211 as well.

What are the Diaz brothers waiting for? While a $20 million payday may be an obstacle to hurdle in any ongoing contract negotiations, White believes Nate is holding out for something extra special.

“I have no idea. Maybe he is holding out for McGregor,” said White. “Conor has endless possibilities for fight.”

El Presidente is right. McGregor has plenty of options moving forward, including one opposite legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. that would land him the biggest payday of his career. Not to mention lightweight title suitors like Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Needless to say, Nate may be waiting a long time to get his trilogy fight with “Notorious.”

As for Nick, he’s too busy puffy the green to put pen to paper and bank the green. Remember, this guy and this guy have recently called the elder Diaz out.
