Dana White on Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather: ‘We’re nowhere with it’

UFC president Dana White says they’re nowhere with a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight, and expects Conor to fight in the Octagon next.

UFC president Dana White doesn’t seem to be as upbeat about the chances of a Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing fight as some do. In fact, he sounds pretty negative about it happening. In a quick chat with TMZ Sports, White stated that they were “nowhere” in terms of the bout coming together:

“I don’t know where we’re at, we’re nowhere. We’re nowhere with it.”

As would be expected from the promoter of a company, White expects that Conor’s next fight will take place in the UFC, not against Mayweather. The UFC lightweight champion is expected to face off with an interim champ that will be decided this weekend at UFC 209:

“I expect Conor’s next fight to be in the UFC, in mixed martial arts and the winner of Khabib (Nurmagomedov) vs. (Tony) Ferguson.”

McGregor has been on the shelf since winning the 155-pound title from Eddie Alvarez in November. He had held the promotion’s featherweight title as well, but was forced to “relinquish” that as the UFC didn’t want him to have two belts. Mayweather is retired from boxing (again), but said he would return to fight McGregor. Negotiations are ongoing.
