Dana White: UFC possibly headed to Russia with Khabib Nurmagomedov headlining

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) may be going to Russia soon, and it’s bringing “The Eagle” with it.

Promotion President Dana White revealed on the most recent edition of “UFC Unfiltered” with Jim Norton and Matt Serra that the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion is looking at staging its first-ever event in Russia to be headlined by Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“Let me give Khabib some love, Khabib has been blowing me up and I haven’t really given Khabib any information, but obviously, Khabib in Russia — that wouldn’t be a bad idea,” White said (via FOX Sports). “We’re talking about going into Russia, possibly with Khabib.”

Still undefeated at 23-0 (7-0 UFC), Khabib made his long-awaited return to the eight-walled cage earlier this year by taking out newcomer Darrell Horcher at UFC on FOX 19 last April.

It’s widely believed Nurmagomedov would get first crack at newly-crowned lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez — unless this guy gets in the way — but apparently “The Underground King” has rejected multiple offers to step into the cage against the wrestling standout.

So says Khabib.

A native of Dagestan, it would only make sense to have Nurmagomedov headline the promotion’s first-ever event in “Mother Russia.”

In a perfect world, it would see him trying to capture his first taste of UFC gold against Alvarez, who just so happens to be a native of Philadelphia.

Where have I seen this before?
