Dana White won’t add women’s featherweight division, teases ‘Rousey vs Cyborg’ anyway

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey won’t move up, and reigning Invicta FC titleholder Cristiane Justino won’t move down.

Where does that leave us?

The same place we’ve been for the past few years: nowhere. But that didn’t stop UFC President Dana White from teasing a potential Rousey vs. Justino “super fight” somewhere down the road.

Again.

From his conversation with GLOBO:

“The women have done very well, but as far as the expansion I think it’s inevitable as the sport continues to grow. But no plans in the near future, no. As far as a heavier division, no I don’t see that happening. I think in a perfect world, what everybody would love to see is Ronda vs. Cyborg, so everybody is waiting — I’m sure Cyborg is, too — for the return of Ronda Rousey. When she does return, I’m sure [Rousey is] gonna want to fight for the title, probably defend it and then maybe fight Cyborg. I don’t know. We’ll see how this thing plays out.”

I’m not holding my breath (because of this).

Rousey has not competed since her knockout loss to Holly Holm back in November 2015. Justino, meanwhile, recently made her Octagon debut at a catchweight of 140 pounds, the same weight class she’ll return to in Brasilia this weekend.
