Dana White: Yoel Romero ‘absolutely deserves’ title shot after what he did to Chris Weidman

For Dana White, Yoel Romero’s UFC 205 performance alone is enough to get him the next middleweight title shot.

Yoel Romero currently sits at the number one spot of the middleweight rankings, right behind champion Michael Bisping. It was a jump from the number four rank, after his gigantic third round knockout win over former champion Chris Weidman at UFC 205 last November 12th.

As of the moment, Romero is made to wait on the decision about his next career move. But if it were up to UFC president Dana White, he deserves the next shot, based on his performance at UFC 205 alone.

“Yoel Romero’s been floating out there a long time waiting for a title shot. Bisping wanted to do that grudge match with Dan Henderson,” White said on the recent edition of the UFC Unfiltered podcast (via Champions.co).

“It was going to be Dan Henderson’s last fight. I’ve always shown Henderson the respect I felt he deserved. He’s a guy who’s fought everybody out there. So we did that fight and he’s got to defend his title now against the No. 1 contender.

“If you look at what Romero did to Chris Weidman, he absolutely deserves the shot.”

As the champion, Michael Bisping says he only wants the “biggest money-generating fight” next. However, he is expected to remain in the shelves until May, as he recuperates from knee surgery.
