Daniel Cormier is very, very deserving of a Brock Lesnar fight.

That’s much different than Brock Lesnar being very, very deserving of a Daniel Cormier title shot. Assuming the pro wrestling import is still a bona fide draw, then “DC” is going to earn his retirement savings at some point in August.

And why not? Cormier has been a model champion and did everything the promotion has ever asked of him. Outside of that UFC 178 press conference dust-up with Jon Jones, the Olympian has given Dana White and Co. very few — if any — on the job headaches.

“I told ‘DC’ a long time ago: ‘If you’re my champion for the rest of my career, I’m good with that,’” White said back in December (more on that here). “He’s one of the greatest athletes I’ve ever worked with, such a good guy.”

The reward is Lesnar, assuming USADA doesn’t have anything to say about it.

“That’s the fight that needs to happen,” Cormier told TMZ Sports. “You know, he’s a former UFC champ, All-American in college. This guy’s very, very deserving of a fight, and he’s gonna get it. Hopefully. Dana, get on the phone right now. If you haven’t called him yet, do it today! What are you waiting for? Get this shit on the books. Let’s get this on the books!”

The previously-suspended Lesnar (5-3, 1 NC) is not deserving.

The 41 year-old ex-champion has not won a UFC fight in almost nine years. His unanimous decision nod over Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in summer 2016 was overturned in the wake of his creamy feet failed drug test. Prior to that, Lesnar was finished in back-to-back fights against Alistair Overeem and Cain Velasquez, who are no longer ranked in the Top 5.
