An injury to George Roop (12-9-1) has forced the featherweight out of an upcoming bout with Antonio ‘Pato Carvalho (13-5) in Calgary next month at UFC 149.

Stepping in for Roop will be Texas based fighter Daniel Pineda (17-8), who enters the match a month after his previous bout.

The news was announced by UFC officials at UFC.com earlier today.

An injury in training camp for George Roop is another opportunity for Daniel Pineda, who steps up to face Canadian prospect Antonio Carvalho on July 21st in Calgary at UFC 149.

Both fighters have verbally agreed to the featherweight match-up.

UFC 149 is expected to take place on July 21, 2012 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Pineda had a seven fight win streak stopped by former WEC champ Mike Brown last month at UFC 146. Pineda had won five under the Legacy Fighting Championship promotion as well as two inside the Octagon before the loss. Pineda’s previous UFC victories were both by submission, coming this year at UFC on FX 2 with a triangle-armbar versus Mackens Semerzier and a UFC on FX 1 rear-naked choke win versus Pat Schilling.

Carvalho meets a new opponent on his Native soil and will look to earn his first UFC win when he meets Pineda. ‘Pato’ debuted with the promotion last January in Brazil at UFC 142, losing a unanimous decision to Felipe Arantes. Carvalho had been set to debut at UFC 134 but an injured forced him out of that planned match. Previous to the loss to Arantes, Carvalho had won three straight.
