A middleweight match looks to be in the works for this June’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event, as Octagon sophomore Daniel Sarafian (7-3) welcomes former Strikeforce fighter Eddie Mendez (7-0-1) to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
News of the matchup was first announced by Tatame.com after learning of the bout through local sources.
UFC on Fuel TV: Nogueira vs. Werdum (aka UFC on Fuel TV 10 or TUF Brazil 2) is expected to be held on June 8, 2013 at Ginásio Paulo Sarasate in Fortaleza, Brazil. The event will host the season two TUF Brazil finals with opposing coaches Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum squaring off in the main event.
Sarafian made his debut in the Octagon last January in Sao Paulo versus C.B. Dollaway. The UFC on FUEL TV 7 bout ended in a split decision loss for the Brazilian but he did earn the “Fight of the Night” bonus. The match also ended a four fight win streak for Sarafian who looks to stave off a pink slip with a second loss.
Mendez was to debut last December at UFC on FX 6 versus Nick Penner but was forced to postpone his first Octagon appearance due to injury. The California fighter has yet to taste defeat and is riding a three fight win streak since a scoring error ended in a “No Contest” in 2010. Mendez had his last fight in May 2012 with a decision win, while debuting in the Strikeforce cage in December 2011.
