The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced a heavyweight bout for it’s second trip to Vancouver, British Columbia in fighters Dave “Pee-Wee” Herman (20-2) and Joey “The Mexicutioner” Beltran (12-5) who meet on the UFC 131 card.
Earlier reports had Herman meeting Rob Broughton at the event, but UFC President Dana White confirmed the bout today at UFC.com.
“20-2 Heavyweight Dave “Pee-Wee” Herman has verbally agreed to make his UFC debut against hard hitting Joey Beltran June 11th in Vancouver,” said White.
UFC 131 is set to take place on June 11 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The main card will air on pay-per-view and the headliner is expected to be another heavyweight matchup between former champ Brock Lesnar and opposing “TUF 13″ coach Junior dos Santos.
Herman makes his UFC debut at the event and recently signed with the company after World Victory Road released him from contract. “Pee-Wee” has won two straight and is 5-1 in his last six bouts. He’s fought for several promotions in that time, including WVR, Bellator, Shark Fights, and an ADFC event in Abu Dhabi. His last bout was a unanimous decision victory over Yoshihiro Nakao at a WVR event in Japan on Dec. 30.
“The Mexicutioner” is likely in a must win situation after losing two straight with the UFC, having put together a 2-2 record overall with the promotion. He last stepped into the octagon last January against Pat Barry at the Fight for the Troops 2 show, losing a unanimous decision. Previous to that, he met Matt Mitrione at UFC 119 in a fight that earned both men the “Fight of the Night” bonus, but it was Mitrione who walked away with the decision. Beltran’s two previous wins came against Tim Hague at UFC 113 and Rolles Gracie at UFC 109.
