Showtime Boxing PPV is back with a WBA “regular” super-lightweight championship bout between Mario Barrios (26-0, 17 KOs) and Gervonta Davis (24-0, 23 KOs). Barrios has the secondary WBA belt but don’t pay close attention to it since everyone knows Josh Taylor is the undisputed champ of the 140 lbs division.
Davis is a -450 to -500 favorite on the betting lines but we know that can shift even one way or another. We know of Davis’ knockout power at 130 and 135 lbs but he’s going up against a big 140 lbs fighter who will have a considerable height advantage as well. Barrios may be a live dog here if he’s able to outbox ‘Tank,’ but that’s easier said than done. Regardless of who wins, don’t treat the victor as a legitimate champ because at 140 lbs they are not. They have a belt but they aren’t a champion. Regardless, the Atlanta crowd should be rocking and this ought to be a fun one.
