Boxing fans won’t have to wait until next year’s Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk showdown for quality Heavyweight action thanks to the swarm of big boys set to hit Riyadh this Saturday (Sat., Dec. 23, 2023) on DAZN PPV.

It’s the rare show with two main events, as former champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder square off with Otto Wallin and Joseph Parker in an attempt to set up their long-overdue showdown this coming March.

Big names like Dmitry Bivol and Daniel Dubois also see action, but you know and we know where the action is. Let’s see what our friends at DraftKings cooked up for Saturday’s featured attractions.

Thoughts: Joshua by decision is at positive odds, which frankly astounds me. He may be a bit of a mess at the moment, but he’s beaten a number of fighters I’d tab as superior to Wallin. He’s the bigger hitter and a sufficiently skilled boxer to avoid the fate of Murat Gassiev, who fruitlessly plodded after Wallin for 12 rounds while getting plinked with jabs and half-hearted hooks.

The “decision” part doesn’t seem like much of a risk, either, as Wallin’s ostensibly elusive enough to avoid getting clipped. It took Joshua 6.5 rounds to find Robert Helenius’ chin, after all.

If you’re confident that Joshua’s lost a step and smell an upset brewing, go Wallin by decision. The man is simply not a puncher, both in terms of ability and general approach. His only finish in his last nine fights came when Travis Kauffman injured his shoulder back in 2020.

Thoughts: I genuinely like Parker as the underdog here. Wilder’s best wins were his two over Luis Ortiz, whom I wouldn’t rate that far above the talented but admittedly inconsistent Kiwi. On top of that, Wilder’s seven years older than Parker and hasn’t even had a full round of ring time in the last two years.

Yes, Parker isn’t the most durable and yes, he did get bludgeoned into submission by Joe Joyce last year, but Joyce is an attrition monster and Wilder’s style is as boolean as it gets. Joyce slowed Parker down with steady body shots and a thudding jab, which we rarely if ever see from Wilder these days. Without them, Wilder’s in for 12 rounds of being the slower, sloppier boxer unless he can find Parker’s light switch.

If you’re feeling extra spicy, consider a bit on Parker by decision. He’s been delightfully murderous of late, but the man has a history of taking his foot off the gas, most infamously against Derek Chisora in their first meeting. With the one-shot threat Wilder poses, combined with his general passivity, I can easily see Parker doing just enough to bank rounds without ever extending enough to put himself in danger.
