The next UFC event on FOX television has it’s headliner as flyweight champ Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson (17-2-1) defends his title versus top contender John Moraga (12-1).
Also on tap is a women’s bantamweight bout as former title challenger Liz ‘Girl-Rilla’ Carmouche (8-3) faces former Strikeforce champ Miesha Tate (13-3).
The promotion announced the bouts at UFC.com on Wednesday night.
The stacked UFC on FOX 8 card finally has its main event, with UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson defending his title against hard-hitting wrestler John Moraga. The bout was originally scheduled to be contested at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale, but a Johnson injury forced the fight to be postponed.
Also added to the card, Washington native Miesha Tate will take on former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Liz Carmouche in a battle between two of the toughest fighters in their division.
UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Moraga is expected to take place on July 27, 2013 at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington.
Johnson will make his second title defense and carries a three fight win streak into this bout. ‘Mighty Mouse’ was in action this past January at UFC on FOX 6 defending his title for the first time by defeating John Dodson by decision. Prior to that, Johnson won a split decision over Joseph Benavidez at UFC 152 to win the belt.
Moraga has won seven straight with two victories inside the Octagon. His last win came in December in a “Submission of the Night” win over Chris Cariaso at UFC 155. Moraga debuted at UFC on FOX 4 by stopping Ulysses Gomez by first round knockout.
Carmouche fought in the first women’s bout in the Octagon last February, losing by first round submission to champ Ronda Rousey at UFC 157. That loss ended a two fight win streak which had ‘Girl-Rilla’ winning under the Invicta FC banner for both matches.
Tate was stopped earlier this month at the TUF 17 Finale by Cat Zingano losing by third round TKO. That match earned both women the “Fight of the Night” bonus. Prior to her UFC debut Tate earned a third round submission over Julie Kedzie at the Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman event.
