Things seemed to be going well for Derek Brunson Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 101.
And in the blink of an eye, it all changed.
Brunson was caught by a Robert Whittaker hook and follow-up head-kick, falling to the Australian in the first round of their main event.
Immediately after the loss, Brunson posted a message on Facebook admitting that he “fought a dangerous game.”
“Fought a dangerous game tonight,” he wrote. “Trying to impress/ make history for a title shot. Great job to my opponent. Long tough week. I’ll be back! Thanks all.”
