Derrick Lewis ‘most likely’ retiring after UFC Fight Night 110 loss to Mark Hunt

After getting outpointed by heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt last night (Sat., June 10, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 110 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, Derrick Lewis revealed that his MMA career is nearing its end. That’s right. Yet another title contender in their prime has called it quits.

Lewis said to UFC color commentator Brian Stann in the post-fight interview (shown above courtesy of UFC) that he is “most likely” retiring after his fourth-round TKO loss (highlights here) to “Super Samoan” at UFC Fight Night 110. The man known as “Black Beast” explained how fighting is putting a strain on his family life, especially before his wedding later this month.

While anything is possible moving forward and fighters have come back from worse, it looks like the UFC heavyweight division will have to move on from Lewis at this point. Before his loss to Hunt, in which he tired and took on too much damage, “Black Beast” had won six fights in a row and was garnering consideration for a potential title shot later this year, if not in 2018. He will leave a 18-5 professional record and eight career UFC knockout finishes behind.
