“Who’s to say we won’t meet up later down the road? You never know where our paths cross again.”

Rory MacDonald and Douglas Lima may now be fighting in different organizations, but the ‘Red King’ says that doesn’t mean we won’t see a third fight between the two in the future.

MacDonald (21-6-1) lost his Bellator welterweight title when he was defeated by Lima in the main event of Bellator 232 in October. After the loss, MacDonald ended his two year stint in Bellator by signing for PFL in December. It hasn’t yet been announced when the Canadian will debut for the promotion.

Talking recently to MMAJunkie about his future, however, MacDonald discussed a potential trilogy fight with the current Bellator 170-pound champ Lima.

“Who’s to say we won’t meet up later down the road? We’re not in the same organization at the moment, but I still see myself fighting for a long time, and maybe he is too. You never know where our paths cross again. I don’t worry about it too much. Competition, he won one, I won one, c’est la vie. On to the next.”

The former UFC veteran, MacDonald won the Bellator welterweight title in his first fight with Lima back in January 2018. With the rematch being against Lima being the last fight on MacDonald’s Bellator contract, he felt the “best option” for him was to sign with PFL.

“Bellator had the opportunity to, you know, not have me as a free agent,” MacDonald explained. “But I think just between this organization and wanting to take the risk on free agency, there was discussion, and obviously Bellator, they had their interest. But when it came time that I was able to talk to other promotions, I wanted to play the field. I wanted to see what options were out there, and the best option out for me was PFL.”
