UFC light heavyweight Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis broke into the promotion one year ago, wracking up an impressive 4-0 stint with the UFC, keeping his record a perfect 8-0.
Davis will put that unblemished record on the line this Saturday night when he steps into the octagon to meet Antônio Rogério Nogueira in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs. Davis at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. Despite his record and being the heavy favorite by UFC odds makers (-300), “Mr. Wonderful” isn’t taking his opponent for granted.
In a recent interview on the Sherdog Radio Network, Davis spoke about his opponent.
“People don’t always know exactly what they’re talking about. … I, for one, am not taking this fight for granted. This is a huge fight for me. As far as I’m concerned — I don’t care what the bookmakers say — this is a battle. But that’s what I’m used to in my career and my life. I’m used to having an uphill battle. I’m used to winning that fight. He’s obviously a legend in the sport because he’s a proven winner. He’s just tough. [I] have to go out there and just make it happen.”
