Jon Jones reaches plea deal with prosecutors, domestic violence charge dropped
Per an initial report from TMZ and subsequent report from MMA Fighting, Jones reached a plea deal with prosecutors in the state of Nevada on Tuesday this week, with officials dropping the aforenoted misdemeanour charge of battering domestic violence against Jones, following an alleged incident involving his longtime fiancée, Jessie Moses.
Jones pleaded guilty to a charge of destroying another’s property, resulting in a fine in the region of $25-$250. The Rochester native was also ordered to pay the victim a fee of $750 in restitution, “stay out of further trouble”, as well as engage in anger management counselling.
Jones was arrested on September 24., last, near the grounds of the Ceasars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada following his induction into the Fight Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame earlier that night. The Albuquerque resident was charged with a misdemeanour charge of battery domestic violence, following an alleged incident with Moses in the couple’s hotel room, as well as a felony charge of tampering or injuring a motor vehicle when he is alleged to have headbutted a responding Las Vegas Metro PD cruiser during his arrest, resulting in a medium-sized dent on the hood, as well as causing paint to chip.
Responding detectives reported that Moses had blood on her face, clothes, and person, and that the couple’s hotel bed sheets contained blood. Moses had become distressed when security at the hotel and casino suggested she return to her room, in fear of Jones’ return, before one of the couple’s daughters asked the security officer to call police.
In the days following his arrest, Jon Jones posted on his social media, “I have way too much trauma to consume alcohol, my brain simply can’t handle it anymore.” And last month, claimed he was 60 days sober since the alleged incident with his fiancée.
The former two-time UFC light heavyweight champion was suspended from his longtime gym, Jackson-Wink MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico by head coach, Mike Winkeljohn following the incident, with the head coach confirming that Jones would no longer be allowed to train at the facility while he deals with his alcohol abuse issues. As a result, Jon Jones has since left the team on a permanent basis, and is currently training at Fight Ready MMA in Arizona, after calling Winkeljohn a “miserable b*stard” for his handling of the situation.
Jon Jones most recent professional appearance came back in February of last year at UFC 247 where he successfully defended his light heavyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Dominick Reyes. Jones officially vacated the light heavyweight championship in August of that year.
