The upcoming UFC 148 card has suffered a setback to the upcoming Vegas card as “The Ultimate Fighter Live” coach, and UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz (19-1), has suffered a torn ACL and has withdrawn from his upcoming grudge match versus opposing coach Urijah Faber (26-5).

UFC promotion made it official on Monday night, posting the news at UFC.com.

A torn ACL has taken UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz out of his highly-anticipated rubber match with Urijah Faber on July 7th in Las Vegas. In a Twitter post Monday afternoon, UFC President Dana White confirmed the injury and wrote “Stay tuned for more info.”

The two were to meet on July 7, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in the co-main event of UFC 148. Their bout was to have been the second title match on the card as middleweights Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen are set to rematch in the nights main event.

The bout was to have been the third meeting between Cruz and Faber, with each man earning a win over the other.

Cruz won their last meeting last summer at UFC 132, defending the UFC strap by unanimous decision. That bout took place almost four years after their first meeting at WEC 26 with Faber winning by first round submission and defending the WEC featherweight title at that time.

No news yet on who Faber might face, but ‘The California Kid’ is calling for an interim title bout with Renan Barao (@UrijahFaber).

Sucks about @thedomin8r hope recovers fast! Sounds like 9 months aftr surgery @renanbaraoufc seems like the best replacement! @danawhite

I guess we’ll have to see what the UFC comes up with over the next few days.
