Lightweight strikers Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone (18-4) and Melvin ‘Young Assassin’ Guillard (47-11-3) are set to meet at UFC 150 a day after Cerrone issues a challenge wishing “someone would setup up for Denver.”
Cerrone was born in Colorado Sprigs and with the announcement will get to fight in front of friends and family.
Officials with the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the match at UFC.com Friday afternoon.
A day after tweeting (@Cowboycerrone), “Well I sure wish someone would step up for Denver,” Colorado’s own Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone found a willing candidate in “Young Assassin” Melvin Guillard, who is coming off a victory last weekend at UFC 148.
The lightweight war between the strikers and former teammates will be the co-main event at UFC 150 August 11 in Denver, Colorado
UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II is expected to take place on August 11, 2012 at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado featuring a lightweight title rematch between champion Benson Henderson and former champ Frankie Edgar.
Cerrone put himself back into the win column with a unanimous decision victory against Jeremy Stephens this past May at UFC on FUEL TV 3, after Stephens stepped in for an injured Yves Edwards. The loss previous to this win, was to Nate Diaz last December via decision at UFC 141 ending ‘Cowboy’s’ six fight win streak and a 4-0 run in 2011. Cerrone has earned himself three “Fight Night” bonuses over his last four matches.
Guillard also ended a short losing streak, having suffered back-to-back losses. The ‘Young Assassin’ was able to win a decision versus Fabricio Camoes at UFC 148 this month. The losses, both by rear-naked choke submission, were to Jim Miller at UFC on FX 1 and to Joe Lauzon at UFC 136. The defeat at the hands of Lauzon ended a five fight win streak for Guillard and it’s a loss he is hoping to avenge.
