It appears we might have to wait a few more days for the official announcement of Jon Jones-Daniel Cormier 2 for UFC 200.
Cormier informed everyone listening at UFC 197 during announcing duties for the main event that he will not receive any doctor clearance until Monday when he makes his scheduled visit. The UFC light heavyweight champion was forced out of the planned fight with a foot injury.
Jones, meanwhile, became the interim champion with a decision win over Ovince Saint Preux Saturday night, but was reportedly in need of a wheelchair following the five-round fight. During the final moments of the pay-per-view broadcast, “Bones” could be seen limping backstage.
UFC president Dana White did tell ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto that if both fighters are healthy, they will move into the main event role for July 9 and the mega-event from Las Vegas.
Dana White tells me if Jon Jones is healthy and Daniel Cormier is cleared on an MRI on Monday, they will headline 200.
