If you’re wondering why Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, opened the NFL on FOX broadcast on Sunday, then wonder no more.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) shares a similar demographic with National Football League (NFL) and of course, UFC has a television agreement with FOX until the end of the year, before moving over to ESPN in 2019.
In addition, Cormier works as a FOX analyst when he isn’t busy fighting and judging by this celebration, “DC” is pretty well liked at the network. So it should come as no surprise to see the Louisiana native cutting yesterday’s intro.
“Today, a dream came true,” Cormier wrote on Twitter. “I had the incredible honor of opening the NFL on FOX broadcast. I am a lifelong Saints fan, so this was truly amazing for me. I’m so thankful for all the opportunities I’ve gained over the years through FOX Sports and the UFC. I’ll never forget this one.”
Whether or not his dream becomes a nightmare all depends on how well “DC” performs at the upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV) event, going down this Saturday night (Nov. 3, 2018) inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.
