Dennis Wright is going to spend the next 10 years in prison for killing Bellator MMA fighter Jordan Parsons back in early 2016. When he eventually earns his release, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Laura Johnson is going to make sure he never forgets the hit-and-run crime he committed.
The means to that end is an additional 10 years of probation that will require Wright to remain alcohol free, undergo longterm substance-abuse treatment, and carry a photo of Parsons at all times.
“I know without a doubt if I had been driving with a proper license, within the speed limit and sober, I know Mr. Parsons would have been alive today,” Wright, 31, recently told the court (courtesy of MyPalmBeachPost).
Wright, whose driver’s license was suspended six times, was reportedly driving 116 m.p.h. when he struck the 25 year-old “Pretty Boy” in Delray Beach, Florida. Parsons was eventually taken off life support after multiple surgeries — including amputation — failed to improve his condition.
Parsons (11-2) made his Bellator debut back in early 2014, quickly racking up back-to-back wins — and finishes — over Tim Bazer and Julio Cesar Neves. His last outing ended with a close, split-decision loss to collegiate wrestling standout Bubba Jenkins.
Bellator MMA has since announced a scholarship fund in his honor.
